MASSA LUBRENSE

Traces of the past, incomparable natural scenery, gastronomy and tradition. One of the most popular destinations on the Sorrento Peninsula.
It is the trip of the Sorrento Peninsula, a short of wonderful triangle that brings together the most beautiful coastlines in the world and the island of Capri… and its beautiful places.
A visit of Massa Lubrense resembles a long excursion between nature, art and sea.

It is worth seeing: the pictresque majolica in the Conservatory of the Rosary in Monticchio, the cathedral of Santa Maria delle Grazie, the inlaid altar in the Church of Sant’Agata sui due Golfi, the views from the Monastery of San Paolo al Deserto, from the Aragonese castle to the Annunziata and from Monte San Costanzo or from the square of Termini, where it seems that it is possible to reach
out and touch Capri.
Other unmissable experiences are: a dip in the crystalline waters of Marinella di Jeranto, the beach of Mitigliano or the beaches of Marina del Cantone in Nerano, as well as tasting the gastronomic specialities in the panoramic restaurants of the area.

Crapolla

crapolla

To get to the beach, literally discend along a path and the starting point is from the church of Sant’Agata sui due Golfi, with the first stop being the belvedere of “La Guardia” from where it is possible to admire the Torre di Crapolla and all six islets of the Amalfi coast. There are then 667 steps to the Marina di Crapolla, where there are the fishing village and the remains of a Villa Marittima.

Marina del Cantone

Marina del Cantone
Greek port, is today a small chaotic and picturesque village, which lives essentially off tourism. The combination of local gastronomic specialities, such as “Spaghetti alla Nerano” invented here, and the crystalline sea, represent a call to which it really is hard to resist. Here the sea is always refreshing and crystal clear, that’s why it is one of the most visited summer destinations by those who want to spend pleasant days by the sea.

Baia di Jeranto

Baia di Jeranto

The first can be reached by a path but the bay is closed o the public and property of the Fondo per l’ambiente italiano, which holds environmental education courses and valorization activities here. The second is accessible only from the sea.

The Vervece rock

Scoglio Vervece
Just in front of the village of Marina della Lobra, not even a mile from the coast, the characteristic rock of Vervece rises from the waters, a real marine sanctuary. Every year, in fact, on the first or second Sunday of September, a celebration takes place at the foot of the Vervece in memory of all those who have lost their lives at sea. At the end of the celebration, divers offer a laurel wreath to the statue of the Virgin, known as Madonnina del Vervece. This statue was placed on a rock face, 12 meters deep.

Punta Campanella

Punta Campanella
It is the extreme point of the Sorrento Peninsula, a beautiful place, which is worth visiting It is the extreme point of the Sorrentine Peninsula, perhaps the Greek temple dedicated to the sirens stood here, whose mythical foundation is attributed to Ulysses. A pleasant excursion on foot is the only way to reach Punta Campanella, through a path of about an hour on the side that separates the Gulf of Naples from the Gulf of Salerno. Along the way, the vegetation becomes gradually sparser and you begin to glimpse the island of Capri, until you get so close that it almost seems to touch it. At the extreme tip is the lighthouse and the tower, which is said to have housed a temple dedicated to Athena. The tower is also in a strategic position because it was used for the sighting of pirates in defense of the coast of the Sorrento peninsula. A bell was made to ring on it in case of alarm and this is probably the origin of the name of Punta Campanella.

Marina della Lobra

Marina della Lobra
The ancient fishing village of Marina della Lobra is enclosed in a natural inlet on the coast, overlooked by the Church of the Madonna della Lobra, to which it owes its name. An agglomeration of multicolored houses, still populated today mainly by fishermen, develops all around the steps leading from the church down to the sea, and offers the visitor an undoubtedly picturesque spectacle, in its entirety of sounds, colors and smells with a typically Mediterranean charm.
