The territory, between man and fire

monte-vesuvio
The story of the bond that unites man with fire. The first presences of man in the Vesuvius area tell of a territory exploited for the great fertility of its land and for the opportunities that this offered. The land constituted it, and still is, excellent soils for cultivation, grazing and other activities related to agricultural and forestry production (production of wood, harvesting of forest products, etc.). The constitution of the national park has definitively stopped the risk of fires and the destruction of a wealth donated by the earth.

The Products of Vesuvius, the beating heart of Italian agri-food

Vesuvius wine is a product that fully enters the history of national and international oenology; known and established all over the world.

Here the grapes have an unmistakable flavor and aroma. The fame of this wonderful corner of the world and of its wine has made myths and legends flourish: “God recognizing in the Gulf of Naples a strip of heaven removed by Lucifer, wept and where the divine tears fell, the vine of Lacryma Christi arose”.

And if Vesuvius could speak, it would tell millions of stories, legends and facts, handed down for over two thousand years of history.

Legends and curiosities

pulcinellaThe Latins associated Vesuvius with the divine Zeus, based on the Greek model of Mount Olympus, they said it was the impenetrable place inhabited by the Gods, as at the time Vesuvius appeared as a green and isolated mountain, lapped by the sea.

Others in mythology call the volcano “Vesuvinum” associated with the God Bacchus, the god of intoxication and wine, as it has always been renowned, the considerable presence of vineyards and the production of Vesuvian wine, thanks to the discovery of some amphorae in Pompeii that report this particular writing.

Legend has it that the most famous mask of Naples, Pulcinella, was born right on Vesuvius, from an egg that Pluto, the god of the underworld and of the kingdom of the dead, had placed on the top of the volcano, following the requests of two local sorcerers. Naples needed a friend of the people who would remedy the injustices and save the most needy: Pulcinella!
If we pass over there, we cannot miss the opportunity to visit Vesuvius.
